Happy Mario Kart World Music Monday!
Ladies and gentlemen, we've got a whooper this week. Kinda.
Last week, we received 4 new Free Roam playlists. This week, the ante has been upped with FIVE.
At least, on paper the ante has been upped. In reality, this drop actually features three fewer tracks than last week's. I dunno, that's just kinda funny.
Anyway, this week's Free Roam tracks hail from New Super Mario Bros, its Wii and Wii U follow ups, Mario Paint, and Super Mario Maker. For those that read my previous Nintendo Music news post from when F-Zero 99 was added, I made predictions for the next two weeks of updates, and my word I was close. This is almost precisely my prediction for NEXT MONDAY, minus Mario Paint. That stings, but I think I deserve some points for being close, at least. Please?
Regardless, the reason we got so many playlists is that these are mostly smaller ones. New Super DS and Mario Paint have two each, and New Super U and Mario Maker have a single track a piece, while New Super Wii is doing the heavy lifting this week with 7 tracks to its name. That's 13 in total, one more than the entire Super Mario World playlist, which again I just find kinda funny.
But regardless of quantity, there's some real bangers in this selection. The NSMB DS Castle remix is one I particularly love, as I've always felt that song was heavily underrated, always living in the shadow of the castle theme from Wii onwards. It's just awesome that it got an official remix. The NSMB Wii playlist has some good ones too, the Desert, Castle Boss, and Volcano remixes coming to mind as ones I remember being pretty good. Mario Paint's Gnat Attack theme also has a remix that I don't think I'd previously heard, which is pretty dang good as well.
All in all, another solid drop of remixes as we continue towards the day the soundtrack is finally completed. I'm disappointed that I was so close but so far with my prediction, but the fact I was as close as I was has gotta count for something, right?

Monday, 7/20/26: Mario Kart World Free Roam with New Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros Wii, New Super Mario Bros U, and Super Mario Maker - Wednesday, 7/22/26: Splatoon Raiders Special Release
We still got Bananza and Raiders to hold out for, so while the best I can do now is go halfsies, not all hope is lost!
