Happy belated-by-two-days Mario Kart World Music Monday! And can I just say, wow. Just, wow. Do I get points for being close?
The gradual roll out of Mario Kart World's expansive soundtrack continued on Monday with the addition of two new playlists. The playlists in question? Free Roam with Mario Kart Super Circuit and Free Roam with Mario Kart Double Dash.
Man.
If you haven't been following my past few Nintendo Music posts, about two weeks ago I laid out predictions for the next two weeks of updates, spanning this week and last week. For the Mario Kart World drops, I specifically predicted Sunshine, Super Circuit and Double Dash for last week, and New Super Mario Bros DS, Wii and U, plus Super Mario Maker for this week.
And what ended up happening? NSMB DS, Wii and U, plus Super Mario Maker and Mario Paint last week, and Super Circuit and Double Dash this week. Sure, I missed Mario Paint, was wrong about Sunshine, and mixed up the weeks, but dang that's impressive. I don't care what anyone says, I think I deserve partial credit for that.
Okay that's enough about me, let's get to the actual topic at hand.
Both the Super Circuit and Double Dash playlists contain 8 tracks each, for a total of 16. So, a similar amount to what we've gotten the past couple weeks, but across only two playlists as opposed to the 4 or 5 playlist drops we received the last two weeks.

Having listened through both playlists, I find Super Circuit to have the better remixes overall, with Bowser's Castle, Riverside Park, and Yoshi Desert being standouts. The remix of GBA Rainbow Road is pretty good, too, though a bit more subdued than I would like, especially compared to the banger remixes that the DS and Wii Rainbow Roads got.
However, while I don't find there to be as many standouts on the Double Dash playlist, it does contain one song that pretty much outclasses everything else: the ridiculous EDM remix of Baby Park. It goes so comically hard that the composers had to have known what they were doing when remixing what is already one of the memeiest Mario Kart songs. Give it a listen if you haven't heard it yet, it's great.
We're well into the rollout of Mario Kart World's soundtrack at this point, and have received a large number of tracks and playlists representing many different games. The list of titles that are represented on World's soundtrack is continuing to dwindle by the week, but there's still a fair amount to go. So, I've compiled a list of all the playlists I could think of off the top of my head that we've yet to receive that I'll be updating in each of these posts going forwards.
Here it is:
- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
- Donkey Kong Country
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Luigi's Mansion
- WarioWare Inc: Mega Microgames
- Flipnote Studio (Yes, really, it's where the Mario Drawing Song comes from)
- Super Mario 3D Land
- Mario Kart 7
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Mario Kart Tour
- Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
I think that's about it. I feel like I probably missed at least one, but I suppose we'll find out as we go.
Looking at this list, there definitely seems like enough here to take us through August and into September. I'd imagine we'll have the full soundtrack by early to mid September with the pace at which things have been going thus far... which happens to line up with when we typically get a fall Nintendo Direct... in that case, I'd think the stage would be set for a DLC announcement, yeah?
...I'm not coping, you're coping.
Oh yeah, and here's the updated predictions. As I'm writing this on Wednesday, the 22nd, we should know within a handful of hours how I did.
