Update (7/31/2026): So, yeah, turns out there was a remaining playlist that had slipped my mind. I'm pretty certain there's a remix of the Captain Toad theme, specifically the Treasure Tracker version. It could end up being a part of the 3D World playlist, but I went ahead and added Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker to the list of remaining playlists and altered parts of the post to account for the addition to the list.

Happy Mario Kart World Music Monday!

So a little while before tonight's drop, I was looking at the list of remaining playlists and saw Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country, WarioWare, Luigi's Mansion, and Flipnote Studio near the top, and, recalling how all but Yoshi's Island had one remix each, thought "man, they might as well just bundle all those together in a single update."

You'll never guess what just happened.

This week's Mario Kart World free roam music update took care of the business of adding almost every remaining playlists that isn't part of either the mainline Mario platformer series or the Mario Kart series, resulting in a 5 playlist drop.

• Free Roam with Flipnote Studio (1 track)
• Free Roam with Donkey Kong Country (1 track)
• Free Roam with Luigi's Mansion (1 track)
• Free Roam with WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgame$ (1 track)
• Free Roam with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (7 tracks)

As previously mentioned, the Yoshi's Island playlist is the only one here with more than one track to its name, with 7 in total, as the other 4 have a single remix each, for a total of 11 new tracks.

While the track total may be small, this is a pretty significant update in terms of trimming the list of remaining playlists, cutting down the list I put together last week by almost 40% if my math is correct, going from 13 to 8 just like that. Except my math is wrong and there's actually 9 left because I forgot about Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Whoops.

With only 9 playlists left to go (unless there's something I'm forgetting), I think we're starting to be able to see the finish line. I imagine that by the end of August, we'll have the full Mario Kart World soundtrack available on the app, which is pretty exciting!

Looking at this list, I personally believe it will be split into three remaining updates spanning the next three weeks, and they will go as follows:

• Super Mario Sunshine

• Super Mario 3D Land

• Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

• Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

• Week 2 (8/10/26): The Switch Era

• Super Mario Odyssey

• Mario Kart Tour

• Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

• Week 3 (8/17/26, The Final Update): The Last Two Mario Karts

• Mario Kart 7

• Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

As with my previous batch of predictions, we shall see if any of this comes to pass, or if I'm just talking nonsense. Either way, I can't imagine there's more than three remaining updates, so by the 17th we should have the complete soundtrack.

Afterwards, what will happen to our Monday evenings? Well, I imagine we'll simply go back to having one drop per week. Whether it remains on Thursday or moves back to Monday, I have no idea.

However, I think it would be cool if they added another game with a massive soundtrack that can easily be divided into chunks for a gradual rollout to take over the Monday slots, that game being Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Given how many rightsholders hands were in that game's pot, I'm not sure how exactly that would work, I'd imagine it would primarily be the remixes for the first party franchises, and maybe some select third party remixes if they could make the rights work. But however they would handle it, I do think Ultimate deserves to be here, and I think it would be the perfect soundtrack to fill in that Monday slot, at least until we get DLC for World that adds more Free Roam music, right? That's gonna happen, right?

Anyways, you should go listen to the remix of Yoshi's Island's Bowser theme right now, it's actually incredible.
