A day late to this because I was tired last night but... Happy Mario Kart World Music Monday!
Just over two months after Mario Kart World finally first arrived on Nintendo Music, we are now amidst the homestretch of its gradual soundtrack rollout. After last week, there were 9 playlists that I'm aware of that had yet to be added, and last night, that list was trimmed by a third when every remaining Mario Kart except for 8 Deluxe was knocked out.
In other words, I might as well throw the predictions I made last week out the window cause they're completely screwed up now! Yay!

This Week's Additions
- Free Roam with Mario Kart 7 (9 tracks/25m)
- Free Roam with Mario Kart Tour (8 tracks/19m)
- Free Roam with Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit (1 track/2m)
All together, this is a pretty substantial drop in terms of quantity of tracks. 7 and Tour combine for 17 in total, with Home Circuit upping the count to 18 tracks, spanning a total of 46 minutes. Not too shabby. There's some really good ones in here too that I've been waiting for, specifically the Ninja Hideaway remix from Tour. The original version is already one of my favorite Mario Kart songs ever, and the World remix just elevates it that much further. Other stand outs include Piranha Plant Pipeline from Tour (RIP), Rainbow Road from 7, and Home Circuit's main theme. For real though, the main theme of Home Circuit is genuinely really good and highly underrated.
This leaves us with 6 more playlists remaining to be dropped in the coming weeks, and those are:
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Super Mario 3D Land
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Super Mario Odyssey
There could be something I'm forgetting- I had already let Captain Toad slip my mind earlier- but I do highly doubt it. Looking at this assortment, it does change my expectations a bit. I'm a bit less confident in there only being 2 weeks left, as I'm now convinced Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will serve as the grand finale and come on its own. Thinking about it, there likely are enough 8 Deluxe remixes to sustain a drop on its own.
I mean, as far as I remember, every single Nitro track in 8, including the DLC (minus crossover courses of course) got a remix, and some, like Toad Harbor and Dolphin Shoals, got 2. Then there's multiple versions of the main theme, plus I recall a Squeaky Clean Sprint remix that is absent from the Tour playlist, more than likely meaning it will be attributed to 8 Deluxe. Add all that up, and I believe it totals well over 20, probably close to 30 tracks. So, yeah, I think 8 Deluxe drops individually as the final playlist.
That leaves the other 5, though, and that's where I don't really know what to expect. They could very well drop all 5 next week, as I'm pretty sure Sunshine and 3D Land don't have HUGE footprints, only having a couple each (I could be very wrong, that statement is based purely on what I remember from playing World), and Treasure Tracker I'm pretty sure only has the one. But 3D World and Odyssey would both be more substantial.
Another question that JUST came to mind is whether or not 3D World and Bowser's Fury would be separate or lumped together. I know Bowser's Fury has at least two. Riding Plessie and the Fury Bowser theme, so I could see it getting its own playlist separate from 3D World. That changes the math a bit, bumping up our total of remaining playlists to 7. Then again, does it? As I would imagine even if they did split them up, they'd still both get added at the same time...
Hm.
Okay so, for the time being, let's keep 3D World and Bowser's Fury together, as I'm pretty sure I recall the pause screen stating 'Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury' when a Bowser's Fury song is playing in-game. I'd need to check on 3D World songs, though. I think it'll come down to how they're classified in the game itself.
Okay, all that out of the way, I still think we'll have the whole soundtrack by the end of August, but the timeline feels more uncertain now. I feel very confident with 8 Deluxe alone being the finale, but that leaves 5 more to either be distributed all at once or across two weeks.
So, compromise. Here's my prediction for a scenario where the other 5 are split across the next two weeks. I'd visualize the other one too, but it's literally just the remaining 5 next week, then 8 Deluxe the week after, so I don't feel the need to. Anyway, here you go:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
I was originally gonna have the first two weeks swapped, but remembering that Sunshine releases on Nintendo Classics the week of the 10th, I thought Sunshine would make sense in that slot, so I swapped Sunshine and Odyssey to the first week and the others to the second week. This would work especially well if we end up getting Sunshine's soundtrack on the app alongside the game next week, as I suspect we might.
Regardless, I can't wait for Nintendo to come up with something completely different that throws all my logic out the window, see yall next week for that!
