In spite of, uh... everything that's happened lately, PlayStation is pushing forwards with their marketing efforts with their latest State of Play presentation now being pencilled in for this Thursday at 6:00AM PT, 9:00AM ET, 3:00PM CEST, and 10:00PM JST.
While these don't excite me at the same level as Nintendo Directs, I always find time to tune in to them, as there's almost always some neat stuff, even if it doesn't particularly appeal to me. Plus, there's always the chance of seeing something that does get me excited, and it's happened enough to where these are always worth watching. And I just like staying up to date on the latest announcements across the industry.
This presentation will be split into two parts. A standard State of Play will be first, ending with an extended look at the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Still being partway through a playthrough of Remake, this likely won't do too much for me, but it'll be nice to see.
Immediately after, a State of Play Japan will be broadcast, focusing on titles from Japanese and Asian studios. Not sure why this has to be two separate presentations when they could just roll it all into one, but go off I guess.
As I'm not ingrained in the PlayStation ecosystem like I am Nintendo's, I don't have much of anything when it comes to predictions. On that topic, this likely means our September Nintendo Direct won't be this week, though it's not a hard de-confirmation, as we've had Directs and State of Plays on the same day in the past. It's always fun when that happens, but I just kinda get the feeling it won't this time. Plus, there's a lot of rumblings that the Direct will be next week, and I'm inclined to believe that so as not to set myself up for disappointment this week.
The one thing I'd really like to see is another look at Kingdom Hearts IV, but with the D23 trailer still fresh and Nomura stating in an interview that the gap between news would be a bit wider this time, I think it's safe to rule that out. Plus, they probably don't want to step on Revelation's toes too much.
We'll almost certainly get another look at God of War: Laufey (and hopefully see more of my homie Frank the Cube), and probably one last glimpse at Wolverine before it releases later in the month.
Perhaps Resident Evil Veronica could get another showing, along with more info on the upcoming Ascendance DLC for Monster Hunter Wilds. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds has shown up in a couple State of Plays, and with its second year of content approaching, perhaps we could see some reveals for that? We already know we're getting DLC packs based on Godzilla and (checks notes) Evangelion, so I'd be interested in seeing more of those Year 2 slots filled out. With Evangelion putting anime on the table, I'm personally predicting Dragon Ball to fill one of those slots.
I'm also interested to see if perhaps Grand Theft Auto VI could make an appearance now that it's had its big gameplay reveal. I doubt Rockstar would need to push it much more than they currently are, as it's already setting up to be one of, if not the biggest game launch... well, ever. It'd be neat to see it, but considering Rockstar's tendency to do their own thing, I highly doubt it.
I don't really have many ideas other than those. As usual with these, I'm really just going into this hoping to see some cool stuff and fun surprises, even if I don't end up playing most of it.
Also, I'm certain that the live chat for this broadcast will be very welcoming and inviting, and will in no way feature any kind of arguments about any particular things that have happened regarding PlayStation, and discs, and whatnot... haha, surely...
Yeah um, for the sake of your sanity, you should probably ignore the live chat on this one. I already always do that regardless, but, yeah.
That aside, I'm looking forward to seeing what they've got to show this time! And if anything of particular interest to me does happen, I'll be sure to cover it!
