No, that's not the 25th level of the first world of a really long platformer, that is my record in Splatoon 3's Splatfests, including the Rock-Paper-Scissors fest that served as the game's online test demo.
Sad, I know. And to make matters worse, to find the last time I was victorious in a Splatfest, we have to go all the way back to Spicy-Sweet-Sour in January of 2023, the game's fourth overall Splatfest and third in the full game. Like, man, I knew the increase to three teams would make winning harder, but wow.
I hoped that the Splatoon Raiders collaboration Splatfest that went down over the weekend would offer a change of fortune, but alas, it was not to be. And now, my Splatfest winless streak has officially extended to three and half years and counting, and who knows how many more opportunities I'll have to break the streak before Splatoon 3 is all said and done, or if I'll have to carry this depressing streak into Splatoon 4, whenever that happens.
My own self-pity aside, I did enjoy the fest, and it was nice to have an excuse to play the game again for the first time in a while. I joined up with Team Speed for this fest, as when presented with these kinds of options, I prefer playstyles that allow me to zip around at high speeds and make quick escapes. It's a big part of why the Inkbrush is one of my primary mains in Splatoon.
And while the results ultimately ended up being fairly close, Team Speed's claiming of the Open and Pro Battle categories wasn't enough to overcome Team Power taking Conch Shells and Tricolor Battles, falling with a score of 365p to 285p, with Team Tactics bringing up the rear with 220p despite receiving 40% of the votes, the most by 10 percentiles. If this truly is the last new Splatfest in Splatoon 3, then it's been a fun ride. I'm sure we'll still get some repeats every now and then, which I'll likely try to take part in to attempt to snap my three and a half year skid, but in the meantime, I'm very much looking forward to getting my hands on Splatoon Raiders.
